Governor’s State of the State Address

On January 3rd, Governor Andrew Cuomo delivered his 2018 State of the State address in Albany. The Governor called for the preservation of Medicaid and CHIP despite cuts in federal funding. The speech raised a few new health care policy proposals, including new strategies to fight the opioid epidemic, a new workforce training initiative, and new initiatives to reduce homelessness and associated behavioral health issues.

A video and a transcript of the speech are available here. A summary of health care proposals mentioned in the speech is attached. Further details on these and other proposals will be provided in the Executive Budget expected in a few weeks.
