Federal Opportunities
SAMHSA Releases NOFO for the Development of SUD Education in Medical, PA, and Nursing Academic Programs
On February 15th, the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) released a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the expansion and integration of substance use disorder (SUD) education for students in medical, physician associate (PA), and nursing programs. Award recipients will be expected to develop and implement a comprehensive SUD curriculum framed in a chronic illness and recovery management model and integrating the content into the general program curriculum.
SAMHSA will provide $5.4 million in total annual funding across 18 awards (up to $300,000 in annual funding per awardee). Contracts will last for up to three years, starting September 30th. Eligible applicants include health facilities, academic schools/programs, and other public or private not-for-profit entities. Pending sufficient applicant volume, at least three awards will be made to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic-serving Institutions (HSI), and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-serving Institutions (AANAPI) and at least one award will be made to a Tribal College and University (TCU).

NYS and NYC Opportunities
DOH Releases RFA for Ryan White Part B HIV/AIDS Support Services to Address Social Determinants of Health
On February 14th, the New York State (NYS) Department of Health (DOH) released a Request for Applications (RFA) for the provision of the following Ryan White Part B HIV/AIDS support services that address the social determinants of health:
- Non-medical case management
- Health education/risk education
- Food bank/home-delivered meals
- Medical transportation
- Housing
- Emergency financial assistance
- Psychosocial support services
- Other professional services
The RFA encompasses the following three components:
- Component A: Community Support Services (Multi-Service Model)
- Component B: Community Support Services (Collaborative Model)
- Component C: Benefits Counseling
DOH will provide over $14.6 million in total annual funding to support Component A and B programs (up to 22 awards), and up to $400,000 in total annual funding for Component C programs (up to 2 awards, one downstate and one upstate). Individual award amounts and number of awards for each component and service region are outlined in the RFA. Contracts will last for up to five years, starting on October 1st. Eligible applicants are not-for-profit 501(c)(3) community-based organizations, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), or FQHC Look-Alikes with relevant experience.
