On October 1st, the New York State Department of Health released a Request for Applications (RFA) for community-based projects that implement the Sexual Risk Avoidance Education initiative. This initiative will fund between 12 and 16 awards to programs for early adolescent youth ages 10-13, including those in foster care, with the goal of delaying or preventing adolescent sexual activity, reducing adolescent pregnancy rates, and easing the transition to young adulthood. Programs will also provide parenting education classes for parents, guardians, and caregivers of youth participants to enhance their parenting skills.
About $3 million in total funding will be awarded annually through this RFA to eligible applicants to support program operations in high-need New York State communities. A summary of the RFA and the full RFA are attached. Applications are due on November 30th.
