As the second Trump Administration begins, the direction of health care policy at the federal level is likely to change in multiple cross-cutting ways. Unified Republican control of the federal government, albeit with slim margins, means that cuts to public health programs, particularly Medicaid, are under serious discussion. Many of these proposed cuts would significantly impact states with more generous Medicaid programs, like New York. At the same time, the administration’s approach towards regulation and program design is likely to be more permissive and potentially more industry-friendly.
To help guide clients in navigating the wide range of possible outcomes, SPG has prepared a detailed look at some of the potential changes to Medicaid, Medicare, and Affordable Care Act policy under the new administration. It’s almost certain that not all of these policies will be enacted and that unexpected twists will occur. We hope that this analysis will be helpful for contingency planning and understanding the impact that different policies might have on health care in New York.
