HRSA Releases NOFO for Projects that Support Care Transitions for Youth with Autism and/or Epilepsy
On November 1st, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) released a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for demonstration projects that implement and evaluate innovative, sustainable, and scalable strategies that support and improve outcomes for youth with autism and/or epilepsy that require a higher level of support (YAES) and that are transitioning from child to adult serving systems. The objectives of the demonstration projects are as follows:
- Increase by 50 percent the percentage of YAES successfully transitioning to adult serving systems;
- Adopt a framework for ongoing partnership, collaboration, and consultation between agencies to support the transition process; and
- Increase by 75 percent the percentage of all families/caregivers reporting improved self-efficacy with the transition process.
Eligible applicants include public or private community-based organizations. There will be up to four new grants focused on autism and up to seven new grants focused on epilepsy. Awardees will receive up to $450,000 in annual funding. Contracts will last for five years, starting on September 1, 2024.
The NOFO is available here. Applications are due on March 11, 2024. Business, administrative, or fiscal questions may be submitted to Denise Boyer at dboyer@hrsa.gov. Program issues and technical assistance may be directed to Donna Johnson at djohnson@hrsa.gov.

OMH Releases Two Suicide Prevention RFPs Aimed at Connecting Youth to Mental Health Supports
On November 3rd, the New York State (NYS) Office of Mental Health (OMH) released two Requests for Proposals (RFPs) that will support not-for-profit organizations in providing treatment adjacent services and connecting at-risk youth to mental health supports.
The first RFP will award $15 million in total funding over a five-year period to not-for-profit organizations to support the development of suicide prevention interventions for Hispanic/Latino, Black/African American, Asian American/Pacific Islander, American Indian/Alaskan Native, or LGBQIA+ youth and young adults. Awardees will receive up to $680,000 in annual funding. There will be one award in each of the five regions outlined in the RFP, which include New York City and Long Island.
The second RFP will award $5 million in total funding over a five-year period to not-for-profit organizations that are led by, staffed by, and supporting transgender, gender non-conforming, and non-binary youth (TGNCNB) individuals through youth suicide prevention programming. Applicant proposals should state the catchment area the proposed program will serve. NYC providers may receive up to $500,000 in annual funding, while providers outside of NYC may receive up to $1 million in annual funding.
Funding for both opportunities will support the delivery of community-based, treatment adjacent, supportive mental health services that reduce the risk of suicide among the target populations. Applicants may apply to both opportunities but can only receive one award. Applicants do not need to be licensed and/or funded by OMH, but must have demonstrated experience working with underserved populations. Awardees will be required to establish partnerships with behavioral health provider agencies to facilitate access to treatment services.
The RFPs may be accessed here. Applications are due on January 4, 2024. Applicants are encouraged, but not required, to submit a Letter of Intent to omhlocalprocurement@omh.ny.gov by December 28th. Questions may be submitted to this email address through November 20th.
