RFA: Mobile Medication Units – NYC

On June 6th, the Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) released a Request for Applications (RFA) for the development of Mobile Medication Units (MMUs) in New York City. OASAS will allocate up to $1.65 million in total funding available from 2020 State Opioid Response (SOR) funds to assist Opioid Treatment Programs (OTPs) with the development of MMUs. Priority will be given to entities seeking to establish MMUs in Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island and/or that are serving special populations as outlined in the RFA.

OASAS will provide one-time funding of up to $550,000 to three awardees. Funding may be used for any or all of the following purposes:

  • Purchase and/or retrofit an MMU;
  • Purchase and/or upgrade equipment for the MMU;
  • Recruitment and hiring costs; and
  • Personal services and fringe benefits for key staffing, including nurses, peers, clinicians, physicians, or drivers/security.

Any agency or organization that currently operates an OASAS-certified OTP is eligible to apply for funding. Awarded applicants will require full approval from OASAS, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to operate the MMU. Providers may apply for multiple awards to deliver services in multiple locations; however, a separate application will be required for each proposed MMU. The MMU may serve locations outside of the borough in which the OTP is located.

The full RFA is available here and SPG’s summary of the opportunity is available here. Applications are due on July 6th. Questions may be submitted to SOR@oasas.ny.gov with the subject line “(RFA) NYS OASAS SOR 2020 – Mobile Medication Units (MMU)” through June 15th.
