NOFO: Emerging Strategies to Improve Health Outcomes for People Aging with HIV

On October 26th, the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) HIV/AIDS Bureau released a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for Emerging Strategies to Improve Health Outcomes for People Aging with HIV. This initiative will fund the following three components:

  • One capacity-building provider that will receive up to $750,000 in annual funding (details here);
  • Ten demonstrations sites that will receive up to $300,000 in annual funding (details here); and 
  • One evaluation provider that will receive up to $750,000 in annual funding (details here). 

All three components will work together to conduct the following activities simultaneously: 

  • Implement emerging strategies that comprehensively screen and manage comorbidities, geriatric conditions, behavioral health, and psychosocial needs of people 50 years and older with HIV;
  • Assess the uptake and integration of emerging strategies;
  • Understand implementation processes, including assessing specific implementation strategies;
  • Understand and document broader contextual factors affecting implementation;
  • Evaluate the impact of the emerging strategies; and
  • Document and disseminate the emerging strategies. 

Eligible applicants under all three components include public and not-for-profit private entities, not-for-profit hospitals and outpatient clinics, community health centers, and community-based organizations. Contracts will last for three years, starting on August 1, 2022.

Applications are due on January 25, 2022. Entities applying to become demonstrations sites are encouraged, but not required, to submit a Letter of Intent by December 1st. Questions may be submitted to Marlene Matosky at mmatosky@hrsa.gov.
