RFA for BHCCs to Sustainably Address OUD

On August 1st, the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services released a Request for Applications (RFA) to support Behavioral Health Care Collaboratives (BHCCs) in addressing opioid use disorder (OUD) and ensuring that staff are trained to provide rapid OUD care. Up to $1.75 million in total funding will be allocated to up to seven BHCCs to help them implement best practices for the treatment of OUD through programmatic restructuring, workforce training, and achieving financial sustainability through payment models such as episodic or bundled payments.

Funding will be contingent on BHCCs meeting implementation metrics and outcome measures. BHCCs who receive funding must aim to implement the following OUD best practices:

  • Same-day appointment access;
  • Initiation of medication assisted treatment (MAT) for new OUD admissions within 48 hours; and
  • Continuity of care from acute inpatient withdrawal management, inpatient rehabilitation, or residential care to community-based OUD treatment services.

A summary of the RFA and the full RFA are attached. Applications are due on August 30th.
